How to Setup PPTP VPN in WebOS

WebOs was a nice concept. Developed for tablets and embedded devices, it is now dwarfed by giants like Android and iOS. However, WebOS is still there in many devices. If you happen to be one of those, then it’s important that you know how to setup a PPTP VPN connection with WebOS. Only the versions 3.0.2+ have the feature for setting up Point to Point Tunneling Protocol VPN. In this tutorial, we shall learn, how to setup PPTP connection in WebOS.

Step 1: Go to VPN settings

In WebOS homescreen, you would find an arrow at the bottom, much like that in the taskbar for Windows. Click this arrow. Then, click ‘settings’. After this, click ‘VPN’

Step 2: Create a new VPN connection

If there is no VPN setup in the computer, then you would only find a ‘+Add Profile’ option in the VPN page. In the page that appears after this, you would have to enter the details for the connections

Step 3: Configuration for the VPN service

After you click ‘+add profile’ you would be taken to a page. The first thing you should select, is the protocol. Click PPTP for connection, and then click next for continuing the process. Then you would be asked to enter a name for the profile. You can enter whatever you like here. Then, enter the server address in the required field. You can find these information from the configuration mail that’s sent to you at the time of the registration for the service. Also, enter the username and password that’s provided by your VPN service provider.

Step 4: encryption settings

Keep the Domain field empty. In the authentication methods, choose CHAP, MSCHAP and MSCHAPv2. Since you would want all your Internet traffic to be sent via the VPN connection, check the ‘Tunnel All Traffic’.

And you are done! VPN connections are always a smart choice to make, and the whole of your Internet safety relies on the fact whether you know that you are connecting safely. VPN gives you a shield against unwanted stuff from websites. So, make sure you sign up for a VPN service, and use it in as many devices as possible.
