How to setup PPTP for iOS (in iPhone)

There will be very few who would actually make a valid case against iPhone not being one of the best smartphones in the market. There are of course people who love Android, but there’s an elegance about iPhone which makes people come back for more and more. So, with so many iPhone users, it becomes imperative that they know how to do everything that’s there to be done with an iPhone. If you travel a lot, you would know how important it is to get a safe INTERNET connection before you actually start checking your emails. The problem is, you can never be sure that you have got a safe INTERNET connection. And that’s where, using a VPN service comes into picture. So, if you have signed up for a VPN service, it will actually take a few simple steps to connect to the VPN from your iPhone. In this tutorial, we will learn to do that.

Step 1: Go to settings. In the general sense, if you want to do any changes to the way iPhone works, you would have to go to the settings. In the settings page, select ‘General’.

Step 2: In the General settings page, select, ‘Network’. This would take you the page which has all the details about your network settings. There are options like whether to switch on the 3G service, whether the data usage should be on while roaming etc. It wouldn’t take you long to find out the VPN settings. Here, you should select, ‘VPN’. If you have never configured the VPN, it would say ‘Not Configured’.

Step 3: In the VPN configuration page, select, ‘Add VPN Configuration’. Then you would be asked the type of VPN that you want to setup. Here, go to the PPTP (point to point tunneling protocol). There would be some details which need to be filled here. You can give any name to the network, and then there are also server name and username and password which need to be filled here. These details can be found in the configuration email which is sent by the VPN service provider after you have registered. After you are done entering these details, click ‘Save’. And lo and behold, you are done!

To connect to the VPN, all you got to do is slide the VPN to ‘on’ and choose the newly created the VPN, and you will be in a secure network. Since smartphones almost always require the INTERNET to be ‘smart’, it is wise if you have a VPN in place for your iPhone.
