How to setup SSTP VPN Connection in Windows 7

VPN connections are becoming important day by the day. The reasons for this are simple. Step 1: Create a new connection

You can find the option to create a new connection in the control panel. Or you can just click on the network icon in the taskbar. Then click on the ‘Network and Sharing Center’. Here, you would see the option to create a new connection. You can do this by clicking ‘Set up a new connection or network’.

 Step 2: Setup the VPN Connection

When the new connection wizard opens up, you would have to click ‘Connect to a Workplace’. In the next page that appears, click ‘Use my Internet Connection (VPN)’. Then you would be directed to a page where you would be asked to enter the Internet address of the VPN server and the name of the destination. In the address for the VPN server you would have to fill up the address which is sent to you by the VPN service provider at the time of registration. In the next page you would be asked to enter the username and password.

After you have completed all the above steps, you would be shown a page which says that you have completed the setup of the connection. There would be the option of ‘Connect Now’, but don’t connect it yet. Just click close.

Step 3: Change the properties of the connection

In the left panel, you would find ‘Change adapter settings’. Go to the newly setup VPN connection. Right click, and go to properties. In the box that opens, go to ‘Security’ tab. Here you would get to change the Type of the VPN. In the drop down menu, choose, ‘Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol (SSTP)’. Click ‘OK’. And you are done!

Just click ‘Connect’. If the Internet connection is working and you have fill in the details properly, your VPN connection, with SSTP will be connected in seconds.
