In this tutorial, we shall learn, how one can setup PPTP VPN for Windows 8.

Step 1

First of all you would have to navigate yourself to the network settings of Windows 8. To do so, all you have to do is right click on the network icon which is located in the right corner and then click, ‘Open Network and Sharing Center’.

Step 2

Here you would have the option to setup a new network. Do this simply by clicking, ‘Setup a new connection or network’. Then you would be taken to the whole range of options available for setting up a connection. Select ‘Connect to a Workplace’. This also has VPN written in there too.

Step 3

In the page that you would be taken to, select ‘Use my Internet Connection (VPN)’.

Step 4

Then you would have to fill in few details regarding your VPN. Here you shall need the email which was sent to you by your VPN provider. Enter the fields ‘Internet Address’, and ‘Destination Name’. Remember to check the ‘Remember my credentials’ box, to avoid repeated entering of the data.

Step 5

After you have done the above step, you would see a network option, with a name same to the destination name which you had given in step 4. Click on the ‘view connection properties’. Go to the security tab, Here you can choose the type of VPN. Since, you would need PPTP work, you should select that.

And you are done!

To connect to the VPN, just click the connection once, and choose ‘Connect’. You would be asked the username and password for your VPN. Once you enter that, you would be connected to your VPN! Thus, it’s just a matter of few steps to setup a VPN connection with Windows 8. Using VPN is a very good practice because it adds an extra layer of security to your web browsing.
